Eleven Eleven 11:11? | Ruff Ruminations

Its funny that I was just thinking about the number 11 the other day and the time 11:11 and then Merry tagged me so how could I not play along!
Merry at Merry With Children tagged me in her Eleven Questions About Me post and I decided to play along while I was on vacation (and watching Dodgeball in the background) My Questions (from Merry):
  1. What is the one thing you wish you were better at as a blogger?
    1. I wish I had the courage to be more honest about my thoughts despite the fact that my fan base is mostly family I worry they may not want/like to read my inner thoughts.
  2. What is your favorite way to treat yourself/pamper yourself?
    1. Giving myself a mani-pedi. It is cheap and easy and just makes me feel a little more put together.
  3. Do you (or have you in the past) work outside the home?  If so, what do you do?
    1. I do not currently work outside of the home but I did just start my own business. However since major part of my business plan is to always walk away from the computer or sewing machine if Grady asks me, it may be a while before I call myself a WAHM. Pre-Grady I spent 6 years working with children with autism in various positions from speech to behaviour. (That is one of those stories I wish I had the courage to share my inner feelings on)
  4. What is your favorite thing about blogging?
    1. Having an excuse to document everything and take lots of pictures but do more with them than just save them to the hard drive :D And more recently meeting and interacting with the blogging community.
  5. If you could magically be anything you wanted to be (without needing additional education or childcare) what would you be?
    1. veterinarian
  6. Do you like to travel? If so, what is your favorite destination?
    1. I love to travel. Favorite place I have ever visited is Berlin, place I want to go (sooner rather than later)is Bora Bora
  7. Are you an adventurous eater?
    1. Yes and no. I will try new things but I have limits (no bugs, brains, abused animals)
  8. How would you describe yourself?
    1. Patient, calm, not nerdy enough to be cool, not cool enough to be popular. Loyal, caring, helpful, forgiving, loving, warm, logical, organized...
  9. Have you ever met your online/blogger friends in real life? What was it like?
    1. Yes thanks to the ladies at Family Fun Canada. It was nerve racking at first but I (think) I am developing some IRL friendships.
  10. Do you have a best friend? How long have you known them?
    1. I would call my sister my best friend, I have known her since1981!
  11. Do you still live in the same town where you grew up?
    1. No, and I probably will never go back. The last time I did it was depressing and ruined any nostalgia I had about growing up there.
Now its my turn, I hope you'll play along :D
The rules:
  1. You must post these rules.
  2. Each person must post 11 things about herself on his/her blog.
  3. Answer the questions the “tagger” listed for you in her post, and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
  4. You must choose 11 people to tag and link to them in the post.
  5. Go to each blogger’s page and mention that you have tagged him/her.
I'm tagging (in no particular order but trying not to tag the same people as Merry :D):
1) Michelle at Simply Happy Mama
3) Amanda at UltraVioletPhoto
5) Misty at Life Where We Are
9) Jenny at Minivan Stiletto

My Questions for them:
1) Do you consider yourself a blogger, mom-blogger or hobby blogger? Do you wish you were more (or less one of those?)
2) Do you enjoy crafts or DIY? What is your favorite?
3) If you had $50 million what would you do with it?
4) What are you reading right now?
6) What is your favorite thing the kids in your life do? (Be you a Mom, Aunt etc)
7) What was your biggest fashion mistake ever? (post a pic if you have one)
8) If honesty was always appreciated what would you say to strangers?
9) If you could spend unlimited money on only one room in your house which would it be and what would you do?
10) What is your favorite part of yourself? What do you envy in other people?
11) Owls are really "in" right now, what do you think should be the next "it" animal and why?

Have fun and play along even if i didn't tag you but let me know if you do :D

Oh fun, thanks for tagging me! I will do this next week when I get some time.

I loved your answers but now I'm wondering where you grew up and why the last trip was depressing?

I also worked with Autistic children. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Well, I answered the questions but I can't think of 11 people to tag or 11 new questions to ask. In fact I can only think of one: If money were not an object what vehicle would your drive for A- your mommymobile and B-yourself!

So here are my answers:
1. Do you consider yourself a blogger, mom-blogger or hobby blogger? Do you wish you were more (or less one of those?)

I am a Mom Blogger. I am a mom, I blog and I generally write about mom related topics. I could also be a 30-something blogger, a female blogger, a Canadian of Greek descent blogger or a black haired blogger but no one is particularly interested in those topics. If I wrote about food, I’d be a food blogger, crafts = craft blogger, sex = sex blogger. I do not accept the assertion that the title mom blogger is in any way demeaning, belittling or dismissive to a woman who blogs about mom stuff. I think the angst over the title is a meaningless non-issue. There are many, many different types of mom bloggers so there is something for everyone.

2) Do you enjoy crafts or DIY? What is your favorite?
Yes. I like sewing but I am terribly impatient and lose interest quickly so I have a lot of unfinished projects.

3) If you had $50 million what would you do with it?
After I picked myself off the floor, I’d pay off my mortgage and debts, maybe buy a new car, set aside a trust fund for the kids and their education, set aside a fund for retirement and one for enjoying life for the next 20-30 years before retirement and probably buy a boat for my husband. Oh, and take a couple of kick ass vacations. Next, I would make sure our parents are set for a very comfy retirement, and that my brothers have their mortgages paid off too. After that I would set aside a fund from which money would be donated to charity. Then comes the hard part – from what is left I would like to give some to my friends, but choosing who and how much would be dreadful.

4) What are you reading right now?
Blogs. I haven’t found a great book or series to get sucked into. I am sad about this

6) What is your favorite thing the kids in your life do? (Be you a Mom, Aunt etc)
Use their imaginations. I love hearing what they come up with! You should see the ant hill they built at the park, complete with a bed of fresh cut grass and leaves, and stairs leading up to the hole at the top.

7) What was your biggest fashion mistake ever? (post a pic if you have one)
If anyone has ever seen my bangs in the 90’s they’d know.

8) If honesty was always appreciated what would you say to strangers?
Depends on what the stranger is doing, but it would probably include expletives for emphasis.

9) If you could spend unlimited money on only one room in your house which would it be and what would you do?
Even though we were very lucky to find a house with a beautifully renovated kitchen, I hate the appliances and lighting, so that is what I would change. Or I would buy all new furniture for my combo living room and dining room :)

10) What is your favorite part of yourself? What do you envy in other people?
I am generally comfortable in my own skin and as such, am comfortable being alone. This was a saving grace when I moved to a city where I knew not a single person. What I envy in other people is ability to feel comfortable in a group and make conversation and friendships easily because I am shy and reserved in those situations which comes across as aloof and unapproachable.

11) Owls are really "in" right now, what do you think should be the next "it" animal and why?
Hmm. Tough one. Hippos have had their day too. Penguins are popluar in Calgary now. I’d pick bobcats.

Anyone else notice that Leslie ‘cheated’ and only gave us 10 questions? Where’s #5? ;)

Funny I didn't even notice I skipped #5. I guess it was a late night :D

Great answers! I am the same way as you on #1. I have so many things to say that I can't. I would write about stepparenting, being a wife to a man who was married before, etc. Unfortunately, any of those topics would get me in beeeeg trouble so it's just not worth it. Thanks for playing along!

Merry, I am thinking of having a nice long talk with hubby to see if he would be open to me being more honest and if he would understand that it would have a real "healing" potential

OK, I finally did this but I kicked and screamed the whole way!

Also, I enjoyed reading your answers to the questions. Concerning #1, I too would say I am not as honest as I would be if I didn't have such a private husband. I already say too much for his liking and not enough for mine. We should all have therapists we could go to for no charge, hello Alberta Health Care?, and then we wouldn't have to spill so much in our blogs. That being said, some big bloggers (Dooce) have become so popular because they air so much of their dirty laundry in public and I don't think it has been healthy for their relationships.
